Mark made over 150 Leyton Orient before joining Colchester United where Steve Wignall was in charge. He was forced to miss the second half of the 2002/03 season with a groin injury and was considered surplus to requirements by the new manager. He became Wignall's first agreed signing when he joined on a free transfer during the summer.

A very tough tackling defender he linked well with Leon Cort, but then lost his place to Lewis Hunt. However he cannot be ignored and subsequently won his position back again. Scored a powerful free kick at Kidderminster that won the game.
