Dickie was a striker/ midfielder. Starting as a striker and partnering Billy Hicks, in the 1930 season he moved to wing-half, and although he had never played in that position before he was soon a formidable force to be reckoned with , and terrified visiting defences.
He was the 1st Blues player to reach 300 apperances in October 1933, and retired a month before his 35th birthday with 332 apperances under his belt.
He played for Bulwell (where he was born) 1917-20, Notts Forest 1920-21, Mansfield 1922-25 then joined Southend for £500 in May 1925.
